Father was transported back home from The Lund Hospice Home this morning around 11:15am. A nurse from Hospice of the Valley came and checked on him shortly after he got home; now he is taking a nap an getting some rest. He and mother visited for about an hour and a half. Thank you all for your prayers on behalf of our family. -Colette’s Facebook update today
Tonight he was quite lucid, even walking around with some help of course, and sitting in his recliner for a while. He doesn’t want to be stuck in the bed. Well, if he can be a “good boy” then we won’t have to medicate him so heavily and keep him in that bed. We will see how long it lasts. -Dawn

Father has been steadily going down hill for some time. Getting weaker, more unsteady, not eating much and sleeping around 80+% of the time. Brain function has been bad for some time and he has a tough time getting sentences out at all, even ones that make no sense. We had bought a motion detector to let us know when he was coming out of their bedroom in the middle of the night, due to him going into the kitchen and getting into stuff and sometimes leaving the fridge open. We recently had to buy a bed sensor and alarm to make sure we are alerted to him getting up due to fall risks. Lately he has been up more in the middle of the night and we found him on the floor a few times.
A few times recently he has asked where he is, and didn’t recognize parts of the house or even his own bedroom, but last night Colette went into his room to check on him and he was sitting on the side of the bed up close to the wall. He was afraid and cowered into the wall. She came and got me, and we asked him questions about family and things to see how bad he was He didn’t know where he was or who any of us were. He didn’t even know who he was. He wouldn’t let us get very close and kept telling us to get away. All the questions and trying to help him, even with a blanket or food, just made him more scared. So eventually we just let him be and I sat over on the other side of the room and Colette went out. After several attempts he got himself up and walked out into the livingroom. I followed him around not making any noise so he wouldn’t know I was there. He went into the kitchen and found a small tomato from the garden and ate it like an apple, he didn’t seem to be so scared anymore, but was startled by the water coming out of the faucet when he tried to rinse the juice off his fingers. He then walked over to the sliding glass door. I was afraid he was going to try to go out but when he saw our cat on the back porch he made a loud sound like he was trying to scare her…it was so startling to us all we had to laugh. He then went back into the livingroom and sat in his recliner for a few minutes and I sat on the couch. After a few minutes he got up and went into the bedroom…I left the lights off as not to startle him, and he went and got back into bed. I snuck some help in getting the covers on him in case he was still afraid. A few hours later he woke up, needing to go to the bathroom and was fine. He knew who we were and he knows today, too. I have a feeling this is going to start happening more often as time progresses.
We had contacted hospice a while back but they said he didn’t qualify yet, but his doctor thinks he might be ready now. So they have sent a referral in to them and we are waiting to hear from them. We will keep this blog updated.
Thanks for all your love and support!

Sometimes I am so tired. I sit and think I should be doing something, since Heaven knows I have a never ending list of things that need to be done. I really think that part of my exhaustion is mental. All day long I have so much mental stress along with the physical that by the end of the day I am a vegetable, and I sit like one, without the energy to do even one more thing. But I just can’t make myself get up and get even that one more thing done!

I really hope that in the hereafter with our perfected bodies that we get to be clean all the time without the need for showers or baths. I think we should just have the dirt and grime bounce right off as if we are made of teflon! I am so tired of taking showers. Well, really it is not the shower it’s self, it is all the stuff afterward. Drying off, and if you feel so inclined, powdering. Then deodorant, and face lotion so your skin doesn’t look like someone is stretching it. Then there is hair. Drying it enough with the towel so you don’t continue to drip all over yourself and then brushing it, but watch for tangles, that will stretch your hair and cause unneeded split ends…and it is really not even dry yet, so if you use a hair dryer, depending on your hairstyle, you need to use a big brush to get it into the shape you want, because if you let it air dry, you look like you got out of the pool and let it dry. Oh, and ears, now you have water in your ears so must use a cotton swab and get that excess out….ok, I am ready for a nap now, and I am not even dressed yet!

Shawn and Krissy came for dinner and brought pumpkins to carve…for fun, and FHE!
I ran out of room for downloading my pictures on here, and can’t afford the upgrade, so will have to think of something else…..?

Working on Scout records. Most people have no clue what goes into keeping track of all these boys and what they do!
I put the calculator there to cover up last names just in case they showed up! 😉

Winter garden is coming along nicely! Of course, the temp being around 100 degrees has really helped them get started! Any one for pickled beets in March? Ymmm!
